QUALIFICATIONS: 
Graduation from an accredited Physician’s Assistant program and current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants. Or graduate of an accredited school of nursing and approved Nurse Practitioner program and current RN license with ANA certification. Minimum five years of experience in a medical clinic or hospital is preferred. Proven communication skills and computer skills are essential.

Facility Information: 
Portsmouth Naval Medical Center occupies a 112-acre site along the Elizabeth River in downtown Portsmouth, Virginia.  The oldest hospital in the U.S. Navy, the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, is also the most modern. The new PA will have the following responsibilities:
+ Provide surgical first assist (high percentage of position)
+ Perform patient evaluations 
+ Casting and splints 
+ Joint aspirations and injections
+ Fracture reductions
+ Post-op follow-ups and rounding
+ Call coverage is 1/10 ER 
+ Patient education
+ Order diagnostic test and review results 

Successful candidate should be NCCPA-certified.  Previous orthopaedic/surgical/trauma experience not required.   The new PA must be effective in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.  Of course, the PA must have excellent interpersonal skills and have a great work ethic.  Rockford offers a reasonable cost of living, has universities, regional airport and provides access to Chicago.  Salary depends on experience.  There is a bonus that can add up to 10% plus extra pay for additional call coverage.  Additionally, there is a full benefits package provided which includes a 401k profit sharing plan.  Please send your resume to the attention of Fred Perlman at: e.perlman@gte.net
