Job Description Specialty Group of Orthopaedic Surgeons seek a full-time Physician Assistant.  Previous orthopaedic background is preferred, but will train a new PA that has a strong interest in the field!  Recent graduates must have completed orthopaedic rotations.  This position will handle cases involving total joints, sports and general ortho.

     Our clinical hours are Mon - Friday, 8Am - 5pm with no regularly scheduled weekend hours.  However, there is a 1 in 4 call group participation.  We utilize a nurse triage answering service to minimize any inconvenience.

This senior physician assistant with three or more years experience, including both medical and surgical knowledge, will provide assistance to the Director of Pain Management Service and Pain Management attending physicians by assuring a smoothly coordinated effort in instituting given departmental policies, and by identifying, communicating, and assisting in the solution of patient and departmental problems.

Under the responsibility and supervision of the attending physician, assists with patient care and management in the Pain Management Clinic, Inpatient Units, and in the Operating Room. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the attending physician to extend his/her services.  Evaluates functional outcomes as they relate to Pain Management. Understands the characteristics of chronic pain patients, and deals with associated psychological and social problems including depression, suicidal ideation, marital and other relationship problems, disability and related social, legal and financial problems, in order to enable a successful treatment outcome.

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:  independently provides patient assessment, coordinates patient care, provides patient education and follow-up, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, participation in the call schedule, computer-literacy with knowledge and experience in medical information and patient billing systems.

Work may involve occasional patient lifting and/or assisting co-workers with patient lifting.  Some travel required. Work may be associated with stress in caring for complex pain patients with social, psychological, and personal problems.
