MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Family Nurse Practitioner: Requires a certificate of completion
of a Nurse Practitioner Program, with emphasis in the areas of adolescent
medicine and a minimum of one year of full-time clinic experience, preferably
in adolescent medicine, or;
B. Physician Assistant: Requires graduation from an approved program
of instruction in primary health care as attested to by the American Medical
Association, the possession of evidence of having passed a certification
examination administered by the Bureau of Medical Quality Assurance, and
at least two years of full-time clinic experience after clinical practicum
with emphasis in the area of adolescent medicine.
1. Requires a thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, &
objectives of modern nursing/medicine, including an understanding of medical
terminology & treatment regimes.
2.. Ability to exercise sound clinical judgement in evaluating emergent
situations and rendering prompt decisions.
3. Working knowledge of general outpatient care and clinic flow.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both clients
and staff essential.
5. Bilingual English/Spanish required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Note the following are duties performed
by employees in this classification. However, not all duties listed
are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Provides case management to specific referred patients and families.
Assists patients in planning, obtaining and organizing health and other
services in clinic, hospital or home setting.
2. Provides supportive counseling, education and referrals to the patient
and their families. Educates patients and their families on illness
treatment options and appropriate referrals for clinical treatments as
necessary.
3. Provides for nursing/clinical care of clients needing triage on
call-in or drop-in basis which may include scheduling patients.
4. Provides clinical assessments under the supervision of a physician.
5. Attends meetings as necessary.
6. Teach asthma classes and consults with patients on proper use of
medication.
7. Maintains tickler system or certain chronic conditions.
8. Provide routine and preventative primary, prenatal and family planning
care patients, ordering diagnostic tests and preparing a plan for treatment
as necessary.
9. Consults with physicians on the management, assessment and treatment
of specific cases as needed, and per protocol.
10. Assists in the maintenance of Hep B tickler file.
11. Participates in after hours triage call.
12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The Nursing faculty consists of full-time
caring and student-focused faculty members who provide instruction and
guidance to the 300 plus students with multiple tracks leading to baccalaureate
and graduate education in nursing. In the undergraduate program students
may earn a BSN in four years, transfer and finish in five semesters, or
transition from RN to BSN, LPN to BSN, or Accelerated Second Degree to
BSN. In the graduate program students may earn a MSN and a (family nurse
practitioner, midwifery, health systems management, or psychiatric) specialty.
Students may also transition from an RN-MSN and specialize in one of these
named tracks. A doctor of nursing practice is in the developmental phase.
