Due
to the growth of the service a well respected Orthopaedic Practice has
an immediate opening for an Orthopaedic Physician Assistant.
As part
of a team of two Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Physician Assistant will
provide comprehensive diagnosis, non-surgical and surgical management
of musculoskeletal diseases and injuries. Typical surgeries
performed
by the Orthopaedist include total hip and knee replacements,
arthroscopic procedures of the knee (ACL tear/repair, meniscus), and
rotator cuff repair. The Physician Assistant will spend
approximately
75% of his/her time in clinic and 25% in surgery. A minimum
of 1 years
experience in both OR and clinic setting is required with experience in
both total joint replacements of hips and knees are
preferred.
However, the Orthopedic Surgeons would consider training a strong new
graduate with a heavy rotation in Orthopedics and a Surgical Tech /OPA
background prior to completing the Physician Assistant Program

The position includes both the OR and the Clinic. This Doctor
handles
a strong volume of spine, some total joint and fracture care.

group has their own state-of-the-art PT/OT Center. They also
conduct
some clinical trials and are fully digital. The PA will see
their own
patient load.

Orthopaedic

will work in a very busy general clinic based orthopaedic practice. If
desired, there can be some OR time. The PA will rotate within

PA will focus on handling a wide range of orthopaedic cases which
includes sports (knee and shoulders), total joints, fracture care and

The Physician
Assistant Program at Lynchburg College invites applicants for the
position of Program Director and Department Chair. The program director
and department chair of the physician assistant program will be an
individual capable of implementing a strong program that also reflects
the mission of Lynchburg College. This individual will have
responsibility for leading the development of the curriculum, the
hiring of faculty, the development and monitoring of the program
budget, and the preparation necessary for program accreditation while
supporting those individuals with responsibility for student
recruitment and admissions and clinical education. S/he will report to
the Dean of Graduate Studies.
The program director
and chair must meet ARC-AP Standards for the position and consequently
must be a certified physician assistant with appropriate graduate-level
training. Individuals should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience
as a physician assistant as well as experience relevant to educational
settings with particular emphasis on medical education. Previous work
in the development of Physician Assistant programs is highly desirable
as is experience with the ARC-PA accreditation process. Lynchburg
College is particularly interested in an individual who has a
commitment to collaborative work and has clinical expertise,
demonstrated ability in management and leadership, teaching experience,
and familiarity with PA programs in terms of planning and finance.
Selected candidate must complete a background check that is
satisfactory to the College.
This position will be
a 12-month, tenure track appointment. Academic rank and salary will be
commensurate with prior experience and professional and academic
qualifications.
Note: Lynchburg
College has applied for provisional accreditation from the
Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician
Assistant (ARC-PA). The College anticipates matriculating its first
class in June 2015, pending provisional accreditation in March 2015.
Provisional accreditation is an accreditation status for a new PA
program that has not yet enrolled students, but at the time of its
comprehensive accreditation review, has demonstrated its preparedness
to initiate a program in accordance with the accreditation standards.
